After moving around quite a bit growing up, we permanently returned to my mother's hometown of Porterville in 1986. I graduated from Monache High School and went straight to work, eventually ending up at Porterville College. For 10 years I assisted students who's personal struggles sometimes interfered with their college goals. Therefore, our program offered various services to assist them in overcoming these barriers, including academic counseling, peer mentoring, textbook lending library, computer lab, and much more.
In 1999, I returned to school as a part-time student, while working full-time, and eventually earned my AA in Liberal Studies from Porterville College. As a non-traditional student myself, I understand how hard it can be to juggle home-life, a career, and continue to earn a higher education. After receiving my AA, and 9 years, I earned my BA in Liberal Studies from CSU Chico and an MA in English from National University. Thankfully, my work experience and education formed the perfect background for my position as the Associate Professor of Academic Development at the Delano Campus. My dream job! So, that's all of the serious stuff... now some fun! My husband and I were married in 2002 and have 2 cats and 5 dogs. All but one of our animals are rescues from the area and we love them! In my spare time I love to read and watch TV (a lot) and movies. (See other pages for my favorite books/TV/movies and what I'm currently reading/watching.) I have a love for all things "zombie," 19th century literature, dystopian fiction, and detective stories. Favorite Books Best Television Movies to Watch F a v o r i t e Q u o t e s
Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.
~Mark Twain Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. ~Mark Twain It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so. ~Mark Twain Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. ~Abraham Lincoln Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. ~Thomas Jefferson It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. ~Aristotle |
